I'm Old School: Let's Converse!

Yes, it’s true. I have had this blog on the back burner for a while, and a recent experience prompted me to complete it.

I require a conversation (not a text, not an email, not a social media inquiry) before I actually book an appointment. There are a couple of reasons for this. I recently almost got duped by a bot or two! I received an inquiry via email from someone wanting to book a ‘surprise session' for her daughters, who were returning to Newport after a vacation. The person indicated email was their preferred contact, as hearing was an issue. Luckily, I figured it out as the emails became stranger, and I was going against my own protocol of not doing a screening. Also, there was no phone number attached to the email.

I am admittedly a bit gullible. The most important reason is that I need to know what’s going on with you. I want to get a sense of who I am seeing. It’s essential for me to get a sketch of what’s going on with you physically and sometimes emotionally. For example, if you have had a recent accident and haven’t been evaluated by a medical professional, it’s better to do that first.

Many years ago, I had someone who called me and had been in a minor car accident the previous day. She thought a Massage would be a great idea! Knowing that swelling, headaches, and a number of things could occur after an accident, I advised her to wait. She understood my perspective.

You may be going through a major life change, a divorce, a major move, a death in the family. Professional counseling might be in order as well. I know my limits! As for my recent experience, a person wanted to do the screening on the day of the potential appointment. I said the health history could be completed then. I require the screening prior to confirming an appointment. The person declined to schedule. I know that it’s convenient to book online (something I don’t offer). I'm fine with texting if you are an established client.

I’m happy I have had enough experience to know that I want to offer the best possible treatment. If I am not informed, how is this possible? Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
